Our Story

Mayhem Youth Theatre was formed from what was Monmouth Theatre Youth by Andrew Griffiths in 2017, to allow the youth of Monmouth affordable opportunities to experience some of the most popular musicals ever produced.

Originally part of Monmouth Musical Theatre, Mayhem was created to give young people greater freedom in the production and performance of musicals. Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods was the last performance as the Youth Section of Monmouth Musical Theatre, and Les Misérables was the first show as Mayhem.

Mayhem stands for Monmouth and Area Youth Home for Excellence in Musicals. They run two groups: a Senior Group of youngsters aged 12 to 14, and a Junior Group founded in 2021 catering for youngsters aged 7 to 12. Each group has approximately forty active members, and members are encouraged to experience other aspects of theatre craft such as stage directing, choreography and backstage work.
